H13 tool steel is air-hardening, hot work 5% chrome tool steel. It combines excellent shock and abrasion resistance with good red hardness making it ideal for use in die casting. Most commonly used in plastic molds and die casting, its ability to withstand rapid cooling from high working temperatures also make it a prime choice for use in extrusion dies. While designed to be a versatile hot work grade, H13 tool steel has been useful in cold work applications as well, particularly when extra toughness is desired but wear resistance is not important. Other applications include: trimming dies, extrusion dies, forging dies, die casting, forming punches, hot shear blades and mold dies.
H13钢是使用最广泛和最具代表性的热作模具钢种，它的主要特性是：
(1)具有高的淬透性和高的韧性；
(2)优良的抗热裂能力，在工作场合可予以水冷；
(3)具有中等耐磨损能力，还可以采用渗碳或渗氮工艺来提高其表面硬度，但要略为降低抗热裂能力；
(4)因其含碳量较低，回火中二次硬化能力较差；
(5)在较高温度下具有抗软化能力，但使用温度高于540℃(1000℉)硬度出现迅速下降(即能耐的工作温度为540℃)；
(6)热处理的变形小；
(7)中等和高的切削加工性；
(8)中等抗脱碳能力。
H13 steel is the most widely used and representative hot work mold steel, and its main characteristics are:
(1) Has high hardenability and toughness;
(2) Excellent heat cracking resistance, which can be water-cooled in the workplace;
(3) Has moderate wear resistance, and can also use carburization or nitriding processes to improve its surface hardness, but slightly reduce its resistance to hot cracking;
(4) Due to its low carbon content, the secondary hardening ability during tempering is poor;
(5) It has the ability to resist softening at higher temperatures, but its hardness rapidly decreases when used at temperatures higher than 540 ℃ (1000 ℉) (i.e., it can withstand a working temperature of 540 ℃);
(6) The deformation of heat treatment is small;
(7) Moderate and high machinability;
(8) Moderate decarbonization resistance.
